First of all, yes I know I live “in the country” and I do love it but let’s all be honest here: I am a city boy. I was born in a city and I get the city. I love the quiet and slow pace of the country but there are just some things I do not understand.
The School Girl spent the majority of the weekend cleaning up the flower beds and planting new and more flowers and plants. Apparently, the neighborhood deer had run amok last night and had begun to feast on the stuff she planted Saturday. I was called upon to head to the local Tractor Supply store and procure some “deer repellant”. Never heard of the stuff.
Okay, so I walk into the place. Now I am not trying to bad mouth anyone, and this includes the southern rural people, but I felt completely out of place. They had signs for stuff that I didn’t even know what it was for. I was lost. With my lack of dirty jeans or overalls and feed manufacturing logo ball cap I stuck out like a sore thumb.
So after begging for help I was pointed in the right direction for this deer stuff I needed. As I neared the shelf where it was located I began smelling something…well…something putrid. My stomach began to turn and my eyes were on the verge of watering. I picked up the spray bottle and it got stronger. Yikes, this stuff was bad. I figured it had to do with all of the bottles that were there but nope, it followed me.
When I got home I read the ingredients:
Dried blood, Putrescent whole egg solids, Garlic Oil, Fish Oil, Meat meal, Seaweed, Onions, Cloves
Dude, this would repel a swarm stampeding hippos. As I read the list I noticed my hands were a bit damp. This crap got on my hands! Gross. City folk would never mess with this stuff.
