Happy Christmas? Nope, Not Yet

On the heels of what Malia posted the other day I feel like I need to let my feelings known about how people are beginning to forget about Thanksgiving.

What happened to the great holiday we call Thanksgiving? The Pilgrims would be ticked to know that it is now a throw away day for stuffing our faces and watching football as we look forward to the most commercial holiday known to man, Christmas. Is the premature celebration and preparations for Christmas another way at sleighting the Native Americans?

Thanksgiving

What prompts the retail outlets to advertise their crap for Christmas this soon? As a kid I don’t remember ever thinking about Christmas until after Thanksgiving was over with. Also, the holiday music. The first we would ever hear it on the radio was the day following Thanksgiving and never before but I have been hearing it and it just isn’t right.

As I was driving around our little town the other night I saw more than one house that had decorated their house and yard with lights and reindeer and Santa Claus, etc. It is disgusting. Are we so hard up for receiving gifts and purchasing useless crap that we are going to start the insanity a month early? Please people let’s stop this and celebrate the wonderfulness that is the season of giving thanks.

That is my two cents anyway…

  1. One thousand percent agreed.

  2. OMG…store were already putting up their Christmas shit and Halloween wasn’t even here yet. I must say…what the hell? I always put up Christmas decorations the weekend AFTER Thanksgiving.

  3. TOTALLY with you here.

  4. Some people love Christmas so much that they can’t wait to decorate and get in the spirit of the holiday. I’m not so enthusiastic I usually wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving.

  5. Always glad to find other kindred spirits! :)

  6. Traditionally, we’re supposed to decorate a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, lol, and now it’s like 6 weeks before.
I don’t know, for me it has much more meaning to put it just few days before Christmas or even on Christmas Eve, than feel silly watching it for weeks and knowing that it really is too early.
And, when everybody is busy in some decorating, shopping, preparing, cooking… those few days before, it all feels so lively, vibrant and somehow merry, if you know what I mean :)

  7. I couldn’t believe that Walmart start putting out the beginnings of their Christmas displays on LABOR DAY!!!

  8. I was going to post about this very thing but you said it all here. I thought it was crazy when I saw two of my neighbors had their Christmas trees up 3 weeks ago! I don’t get it either.

  9. Wow, it seems lots of ya’ll are in agreement. How great!
