For years I have been interested in genealogy. I always wondered where my family came from and if I was related to anyone famous. Over the years I have been able to find, with lots of help, hundreds of years worth of information. It is interesting, at least to me, to learn the initial history of the LeBlanc name. It has been determined, according to others’ research that a man named Hughes LeBlanc or Hugh the Great as he was more commonly known as, who was born in the year 898, was the father of a man that would become the first ever King of France, Hugh Capet.
I am related to Hugh Capet, therefore I suppose I am of royal blood. It gets a bit more interesting if you search further back, too. Hugh Capet’s ancestors (and mine) included King Bernard of Italy, born in 797. Bernard was the illegitimate son of King Pepin of Italy. This Pepin character is famous for several things but most importantly for being the son of Charlemagne!
Now how about that for an important relative? So have any of you traced your family history? Have you found any interesting or famous relatives? I went into it hoping to have relatives that fought in the American Revolution or Civil War but they hadn’t migrated to the US at those points in history. I think I did pretty good with the whole Charlemagne thing, though.
