Scenes From Vacation: The End

Okay, so as I write this I am no longer on vacation and suffering from a bit of PVS (Post-Vacation Syndrome). I have no desire to be at work and I actually LIKE my job! The only thing that may help is to revisit those final days of my time away from the workplace. Let’s see, I left off with…

Friday

What happened on Friday? Oh, that’s right, not a damn thing! I am pretty sure that I never took off my “play clothes” or went outside for more than a puff on a cigarette. I managed (not just on this day but close to it) to finish several books: The Right Stuff (wow, I love this story), Heart-Shaped Box (I say that Joe Hill is a better writer than his father!), 700 Sundays (thanks to Billy Crystal for the laughs and the tears!). By the way, for those who keep track, I have surpassed by total of 23 books from last year. Hooray for me and I have almost 4 full months to add to it!

Saturday

After shuffling through the morning The School Girl and I decided to make a trek around the area. Truthfully, I just indulged her as she wanted to head out to a state park. Unfortunately for me, I never asked WHERE this park was located. The following counties were visited in our travels this fine day:

Middle Tennessee

Marshall, Bedford, Coffee, Cannon, Dekalb, White, Warren, Putnam, Smith, Wilson, Rutherford, Williamson and Maury. Holy crap!

Also, there was a ridiculous climb for an overweight, slowly aging, some-time smoker like myself.

Stairs

Yikes right? Well the first park we went to was called Burgess Falls and it was beautiful.

The other park we visited was Rock Island. I didn’t care for this as well as the first place but it was much better than being at work right?

Now it also happened to be our anniversary this fine day. It has been a tradition for us to eat at a Cracker Barrel for dinner and today was not going to be the exception. This all started on our wedding day. We were pulled in hundreds of directions and never got to eat on our own wedding day, except for a tiny piece of cake so we ate later in the evening at the Murfreesboro Cracker Barrel. We have done it every year since.

This is also my traditional “starches only” dinner: chicken fried chicken, dumplins, mac & cheese, and hashbrown casserole. Mmmm.

When we pulled into the driveway we had run up the odometer over 300 miles!

Sunday

Yesterday consisted of watching crappy football games and laundry. All of these are better than working though.
