Blogging Is Good For The Soul

How much of your life do you devote to blogging? I think I average about one post per day with the bulk of the writing getting accomplished on the weekends. I have noticed amongst my peers that, depending on the individual, this number can fluctuate considerably. Do you let this practice, or frivolity as I see it, consume your life so much that your personal or family life is affected or causes you grief on the job front?

This subject is one that has been broached by a blogger that I have been reading over the past few months. I feel that people like me, my wife, my best friend and my other buddies from the blogging community have been called out in a way.

It was mentioned that blogging on a semi-regular basis takes away from more important aspects of life such as work and family. I can understand that if you feel that your life is too busy to allow for time on your computer to blog then absolutely, you should not be blogging. Now I cannot speak for anyone else but I find the process of blogging to be cathartic. I have the ability to tell my stupid little stories to a wider audience as well as express my opinions, however unimportant they may be.

I have found that writing is a way of relaxing and being creative, almost like an escape. In just about every case, the act of writing or blogging has not taken away from my productivity in the workplace nor has this little hobby taken me away from my wife, family or friends. On the contrary, it has brought us closer. When I have the time to get on the computer and I have something of moderate interest to relay to you, the reader, then I sit in front of my PC and type away. The only thing I have found that is getting neglected is my television. By doing this I am able to begin dialogues with my fellow bloggers and friends/family that provoke interesting and amusing conversations.

In my humble opinion I believe this process of blogging to be only good as long as some benefit comes to the creator of the work. Anyone who feels differently, anyone who looks down their nose at us bloggers, anyone who feels that this is a waste of their precious time are urged to please stay far, far away.

  1. I agree 100%. I usually do my writing during my lunch hour at work…..not even my food gets neglected!

  2. I find it exhilarating just reading not only your blog but the few I read daily that I have placed in my favorites. What I say to the ones that shun it, fuck ‘em!

  3. Amen to all of this. Preach on. Unfortunately, I know plenty of people who fit into the category of nose-looker-downers.
