Why Walk When You Can Drive?

I called my wife this afternoon to say ‘hi’ and to find out a little about what she was thinking about for dinner and to remind her that I needed to stop at the bank. During the conversation she says to me:

The School Girl: I want to go walk.

me: What are ya talking about, I have a car, I’ll drive you anywhere you want.

Apparently she meant go to the park and get some exercise. I’ll be honest with you I had no desire to go walk but both Fandango and I could really use it badly. With all of the fast food we were eating while Ivan The Terrible was in the hospital I know I gained at least another 20 pounds on top of my already engorged girthiness.

So after work we headed over to the local park in our fair boondocks, Rock Creek Park.

Rock Creek Park

For a tiny town like ours, the little park is a nice and pleasant place with a walking trail that The School Girl claims is 3 1/2 miles.

The walk brings you through the center of town, or at least behind the town square. There are a decent amount of trees and grassy areas. We have strategically placed benches to sit and watch the birds or talk to some of the nice locals.

We passed under several bridges into the main part of town. Under most of them was some graffiti; however, under one in particular was a nice mural.

Now we went out to the park prior to my dinner. I was effing starving to death, ya’ll. During one part of the walk the following conversation was had:

The School Girl: Look over there, an oriole.

me: **overly excited** Where? Where?

Uhhm, yeah, I thought she said, “Look over there, an Oreo.” She lied. No cookies to be found anywhere!

Near the end of our journey Super Pooch Fandango was huffing big time. I figured that he would fall asleep on the ride back home but it took a few hours. He is now sleeping like a baby.

Fandango

Overall it was a nice experience…then the wife asks if I am going to come out and walk tomorrow. Why would I walk tomorrow? I have exercised enough for a week and I think I have to do dishes or something. Nah, I may go…if my pulled groin muscles heal in time.

By the way, the answer to this post’s title is so that you can spend some quality time with your wonderful wife who is only trying to kill you through walking because she cares. I think.

  3. What a great looking park! We’re lucky to have some great parks here in our little town, too. No Oreos in mine either, though. :)
