Are Board Games Considered Sports?

I am tricking you into reading this, the 20th episode of my tales about my nephews, Snake and The Evil One by not mentioning them in the title. I am shaking stuff up I guess. Also, I am lying when I say this is about both nephews. This is only a quick, amusing conversational type post regarding The Evil One. I have noticed that he is really starting to monopolize these posts. Any-hoo…

Last week or so, the boys were visiting with Moms. For a bit of entertainment she broke out the board games as any grandmother would do when she has run out of cough syrup to make rambunctious children quiet. I believe they played Trouble, a definite crowd pleaser.

Well, ol’ Evil One’s game playing skills this fine day had managed to allow him to carry last place. Basically, he was losing badly. Anyone who knows young boys understands that they do not like to lose…at anything. My ingenious nephew, who ails from a common breathing disorder that could be a hindrance I suppose in future sporting activities, came up with a cunning plan.

As any industrious and forward thinking young man would do, he used his noggin at a moment of severe board game loss. He needed a way to reverse his luck and find that ace up his sleeve…he came up with this:

Evil One: Grammy, it’s not fair!

Moms: You can’t win all the time, honey. **

Evil One: But I have asthma!

Moms: It’s a board game, asthma will not affect it. **

Isn’t it great how at such a young age he has already managed to take his differences and turn them into a positive? I think I will have him teach me this great skill and maybe somehow I can find a way to sue someone out of some cash. Thanks buddy. Kids are just the best.

For your listening pleasure I am posting the underrated Ray LaMontagne playing the spectacular “Trouble“. Yes, the game made me think of this song and I couldn’t get it out of my head. Thanks for playing along.

** I may have taken some liberties with Moms’ part of the conversation but you get the idea.
