On My Way To The Mail Room

My new job requires me to access different parts of our building that in 4 previous years I never had reason to venture into. I am now the guy who brings the mail to the mail room. There is a large photograph on the wall in that distant hallway that always makes me stop and stare at it.

Route 66 Albuquerque, New Mexico by Ernst Haas
(If you look carefully you can see me in the reflection.)

It is a photo by Ernst Haas that was taken in 1969 of Albuquerque. I am mesmerized by it. I love color photos of old stuff. I love the cars. I love the font used in the signs. I would have loved to be around at this time in world history but alas, I was born into the wrong timeframe.

Are there any specific times in history that you would do anything to visit? Like maybe during the times when Norman Rockwell made all of his paintings? I would pick pretty much any time before 90s.

  1. I would love to be in the 40’s-50’s a simpler time.

  2. I would love to get my hands on a copy of that print. Surprisingly, I saw a copy of it in Hungary in an IKEA store, and for some bad reason I didn’t purchase it. (ugh) Now I can’t find the picture, except at fine art studios.

I would love to go back to that time in that photo. Maybe it was because I was born in 1970, the year after the photo was taken and I grew up right down the street in Albuquerque. (the street named Carlisle in the photo)

    :)

  3. Dear Sir,

Thank you so much for liking this wonderful picture that my father Ernst Haas took. He would be thrilled.

    All the best

  4. Victoria – You father’s work is spectacular, it is my pleasure.
