Yesterday I mentioned that The School Girl, with help from her mom, were making a scaled down version of what was to be our English Thanksgiving. Little Harry and Fandango got pretty bored waiting for the meal.
They can be soooo lazy sometimes. Anyway, here is what it all looked like.
In the foreground on the left we had baked vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, acorn squash and turnips covered in onions with rosemary & thyme) and on the right of that was Yorkshire Pudding. In the background on the left (mostly obscurred) was the Steak & Kidney Pie and to the right of that was the Mincemeat Pie.
I have to tell you that I could not get enough of the Steak Pie. Yes, I know, as mentioned earlier we substituted lamb kidney for kidney beans and we did add mushrooms but we just couldn’t make ourselves use real kidneys! Sorry Rosie!
We also had to have a desert. The wife made a Bedfordshire Apple Florentine Pie. It was delicious and extremely tart.
The kicker for this pie (and ‘Coma will love this idea) is that after it bakes you make this nifty little glaze or whatever that includes:
That’s right, beer! Ahem, I am not really sure why that silly old brandy is in that shot. Get out of the way brandy! Pardon me. We just can’t take her anywhere these days.
So, to sum up. Dinner took a long time to cook. Dinner was good. I learned that I do not like Mincemeat Pie. We were all too full for seconds. And we love beer. Happy (Belated) Thanksgiving everybody.
