Happy Anniversary

Today is the fourth wedding anniversary for The School Girl and I. The following statement may sound terrible but it isn’t meant to be; however, it feels like we have been married for so much longer. It feels like we have been together for years and I am thrilled about it. I couldn’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.

It seems like forever ago (August 1, 2002 to be exact) that we met. It was at one of those weekday evening concerts downtown at Riverfront Park. I went with The Green Machine to drink some beers and to see Better Than Ezra. We were going to meet a girl we worked with down there and a friend of her’s. Yep you guessed it, the friend was The School Girl.

We seemed to have a spark immediately, making jokes and cutting on each other. She made fun of my shoes. They were slip on type shoes that still to this day she refers to as my mocassins. We managed to sit outside of the Beer Sellar just talking and watching people stroll by.

We saw a group of people who were wearing those silly oversized cowboy hats. If memory serves me right a homeless man gave her a flower. It was a very strange night to say the least.

Anyway, we eventually parted ways but not before she gave me her number. We talked a few times after that but never really got together again (not for a lack of trying) until several months later. I am a firm believer in karma and fate and I think fate intervened this time for me.

Eventually, we got together for good (fastforward), and got engaged (fastforward), got married (fastforward) and have become each other’s best friend. We have a really nice sort of co-dependency thing going on, in a healthy way, of course.

Well in a roundabout sort of way, I just wanted to tell my wife and everyone else that will listen that I am thrilled to be married to this woman and am glad that she feels the same way. I love you, babe. Happy Anniversary.
