Celebrating a birthday today is Boston musician Peter Wolf (1946) of The J. Geils Band fame.
We were lucky enough to get out of training a little early yesterday. This would allow me to pick up The School Girl early from work and get home at a decent time. I was pretty thrilled about it. I made the incredibly long trek out to my car and was giddy with the excitement of heading out on the road and making the extreme trip to the boondocks.
I walked up to The School Girl’s car and pressed the button on the key chain to turn off the alarm. I did not hear the *beep* *beep* sound as expected. This was very odd. I looked into the driver’s side window at the blinking red light that indicated my alarm was still set. I also noticed that the doors were still locked.
Instinctively I kept pressing the button just hoping that the alarm would become disabled but it never would. I made the brave decision to unlock the doors manually (you know, old school style) and hope that the alarm would not ring. Boy that hoping went right out of the window fast as I jumped in to the screaming Toyota. The car would not start with the alarm going off. Nice!
I decided to call my wife to see what she may have done in this situation before. “I’m not sure.” Wow, very helpful. She did suggest that I unhook the battery from the car and then hook it back up. Uhh, no, don’t like that idea. Finally I called Pops in Bama. He, of course, was still working and it sounded like he was meeting with someone. He was nice enough to relay the story to the room and get ideas bounced around. Ultimately, it was suggested to jump in the car and push the unlock button and then lock the doors back. At that point my car stopped ringing uncontrollably and was able to be started. Apparently, the battery in my remote is dead. I’m sure that will be a minimal cost…yeah, right.
Just before hanging up the phone with me, Pops told me to be sure to call him next time I have a car problem so that he can send a girl to fix my issue. Ain’t he the sweetest thing?

I didn’t suggest you unhook the battery in the car. I suggested you take the battery out of the controller to see if it would reset the remote.
